Polyswitches safeguard against electrical overloads, effectively protecting speakers in most scenarios. However, they do not prevent mechanical overloads. Choose the appropriate device based on its trip power rating in watts. For instance, to protect a tweeter rated at 10 watts RMS and 8 ohms, select an RXE075 device. When uncertain, opt for a conservative approach. Some experimentation may be required due to the variability of music signals. Connect the device in series with the speakers for optimal protection.
**Functionality**
When the protector's operating current is exceeded, the device's interior partially melts, increasing volume and resistance significantly, thereby reducing current flow. The device remains in this state as long as the current is maintained due to elevated temperature. Once the current is removed, the device quickly resets, restoring its low resistance value.
